Ghost Train Orchestra plays Edward Gorey show
By Brian Carpenter on October 26, 2010 8:26 AM
The Ghost Train Orchestra will be performing on the afternoon of Halloween at a fantastical and inspired event produced by Dances of Vice at the Highline Ballroom in NYC celebrating the work of writer/illustrator Edward Gorey called Phantasmagorey. And there's even a brunch, believe it or not. The orchestra goes on at 1:50. Tickets here.

The Sound of Horror airs Oct 22
By Brian Carpenter on October 12, 2010 11:18 AM
"The
Sound of Horror" is a 3-hour radio broadcast on sound design in modern
horror and science-fiction films I debuted in 2003. Since then, the program has been used in universities across the
world in study of sound design. Included are clips, interviews, and
examples of sound techniques used in classic director / sound designer
collaborations such as David Lynch / Alan Splet (Eraserhead, Blue
Velvet), Fr...ancis
Ford Coppola / Walter Murch (Apocalypse Now, The Conversation), Alfred
Hitchcock / Bernard Hermann (Psycho, The Birds), and Darren Aronofsky /
Brian Emrich (Pi, Requiem For A Dream).
This year's program has
been revised to include films outside the horror genre and new special
guests to be announced. Interviews and guest appearances by sound
designers Craig Henighan (Requiem For A Dream), Ren Klyce (Seven, Fight
Club), Ron Nagle (The Exorcist), Sound Dogs superivising sound editor
Stephen Barden, and Steven Jay Schneider, author of the books "Dark
Thoughts: Philosophic Reflections on Cinematic Horror" and "Fear Without
Frontiers".
