ABOUT THE PLAY

The Barbary Coast is a musical stage play with book by Dominic Orlando and music and lyrics by Brian Carpenter. Inspired by Herbert Asbury's 1933 true crime book The Barbary Coast, an unflinching account of the sink-hole of depravity and vice that once made San Francisco the most dangerous spot in the world. The musical tells the exhilarating and unbelievable story of the bloody rise of the San Francisco underworld during the late 1800s Gold Rush. The Barbary Coast was originally commissioned by the Berkeley Repertory Theater in California,
